Artist in Residence Program 2018-01-23T14:41:32+00:00

BreckCreate Artist in Residence Program

Our partner, Breckenridge Creative Arts, hosts an Artist-In-Residence program throughout each year, working with artists who live in the heart of Breckenridge at the Tin Shop or Robert Whyte House on the Arts District Campus for approximately one month. The Breckenridge Film Festival has successfully worked with BCA to place filmmakers at the Tin Shop for month-long residencies since 2016.

BCA’s artist-in-residence program offers regional, national and international artists of all disciplines an opportunity to focus on process rather than product while engaging with the local community in a meaningful way.

Visiting artists live and work for 4–8 weeks in the Breckenridge Arts District, an intimate campus of historic structures nestled under majestic snow-capped peaks in cozy downtown Breckenridge. During their stay, they partner with a local organization to explore a place-based thematic narrative—whether that means interpreting our spectacular mountain setting, rich local history or risk-taking spirit; or focusing on an environmental or social topic important to the community.

Artists extend their practice beyond the studio walls to engage the public through demonstrations, lectures, open studios, public art projects and weekly workshops, and culminate their stay with a presentation or event produced in collaboration with their local partner. The artist-in-residence program is a partnership between Breckenridge Creative Arts and the Saddle Rock Society.

The residency program is currently booked through 2018. Submissions for 2019 will open in summer 2018.

The Breckenridge Film Festival encourages interested filmmakers to submit an application in advance of the annual September deadline (see links below) to be considered for residencies the following year.

Filmmakers selected for other times of the year are encouraged to reach our to the Breck Film Fest’s Operations Team to coordinate presence at the monthly Summit Film Society events on the Arts District Campus throughout the year.

Past filmmakers have engaged the Breck Film Fest’s donor group, the Gold Ticket Club, in a special reception, and have been actively engaged with the Breck Film Fest’s community activities, such as during its flagship event on the third weekend of September annually.

Previous “Filmmakers in Residence” (as we love to call selected film-oriented artists) include:

Be it asset development, set-dressing, lighting, or any of the many other aspects of 3D production, he loves working to create beautiful digital imagery.
  • Sara Louviere (2016) – Sara Louviere is an interactive 3D artist. She is based in Denver, where she earned her BFA with emphasis in 3D graphics and animation. She is passionate about creating new and fun ways for people to play with technology.
