Join the visual-effects team behind Disney’s 2017 live-action remake of the 1991 animated classic, the
animator who drew Beast in the 1991 classic and our own Board member and animation professor, Howard Cook, as we discuss the creative and technical challenges behind bringing these wonderful and exciting films to life and how technology has radically changed the way films are made. You will get a chance to hear how the film’s many characters and environments evolved from initial concepts and studies to finished designs. Learn how traditional animation of the Beast as drawn by animator Aaron Blaise compares to the remarkable, technologically augmented Beast performance in the 2017 version, and how the visual effects treatment is both quite different and somewhat the same. See first-hand how traditional animation works and how it has evolved into a new version, only 26 years later, using “state-of-the-art” technology.
With special guests: Kelly Port, Visual Effects Supervisor, Digital Domain; Darren Hendler, Digital Effects Supervisor, Digital Domain; Aaron Blaise, former Disney animator; Howard Cook, Chair, Programming Committee, BFF
Disney’s animated classic takes on a new form, with a widened mythology and an all-star cast. A young prince, imprisoned in the form of a beast, can be freed only by true love. What may be his only opportunity arrives when he meets Belle, the only human girl to ever visit the castle since it was enchanted.
