LAVA

Inspired by the isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes, Lava is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years.

It’s 32 years since Pixar released its first short, The Adventures André and Wally B., In 1986, with the theatrical release of Toy Story 2, Luxo Jr. a timeless tale of two Anglepoise lamps and one ill-fated bouncing ball, Pixar created what would become the studios icon the “little lamp that could”.  Since the release of Pixar’s second feature film, A Bugs Life, all Pixar films have come with their own Pixar created short. For many a Pixar fan, the short “unspooled” before each Pixar film is the highlight of seeing the studios latest animated film. What better way to celebrate the end of the 36th annual Breckenridge Film Festival than with a mini-marathon of all the animation house’s shorts, from Luxo Jr. to Its latest, the seaside-set Piper?
BFF will be screening all Pixar’s original shorts in one 89-minute binge of the most charming, lovingly-crafted short-form animations imaginable. Joining us to talk about his role in the production of Piper will be Pixar Producer, Marc Soundheimer. Marc will be sharing his insight into the selection of stories for Pixar shorts and how they are produced within this iconic studio.  It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on recent shorts you might have missed, like Sanjay’s Super Team and The Blue Umbrella, rediscover old favorites and see where it all began for John Lasseter and the magic artist, engineers, and scientist behind what is Pixar. A snapshot of the history of computer graphics, this lineup will not only be entertaining but it is a rare glimpse at just how far the medium has come in 30 years. With 17 films in total and not a duffer among them, this is the place to be Sunday, September 18th for the BFF’s feast of totally awesome Pixarness.
